Public storytelling guide

Your practical goal is to host a storytelling event that showcases the stories of people with IDD in your community. You can alter the plan, but we suggest five storytellers and in-person workshops and show.

Step 03

As soon as you pick a date you can work on completing other steps in the process. We recommend picking a date about three months ahead of time. Here is a sample timeline:

    • Identify newsroom participants and their roles
    • Confirm partner organization for storytelling
    • Finalize logistics including budget, venue and date
    • Create a social media plan with possible illustrators.
  2. Two months out 4 tasks
    • Finalize individual storytellers
    • Workshop #1
    • Workshop #2 (if applicable)
    • Workshop #3 (if applicable)
  3. One month out 2 tasks
    • Begin promotion of event
    • Design and print programs
  4. Two weeks out 3 tasks
    • Finalize run of show
    • Rehearsal + Tour storytellers through space where event will take place
